guidelines

At The Sappho Project, we provide the platform for women and TGNC musical theatre book writers, composers, and lyricists to share their work. We want our industry to more accurately reflect all perspectives, stories, and experiences.

Our blog, Sappho Small Talk, is focused on expanding that mission. If you have a thought-piece or an idea for a piece that provides insights, inspiration, or critiques about making this mission a reality, we’d love to hear from you.

We’re looking for pieces that…

  • Highlight new work and the people doing that work in the musical theatre industry.

  • Challenge the current system and highlight where it fails to serve BIPOC, women, and TGNC artists.

  • Provide insights and ideas that encourage building a future musical theatre industry representative of all perspectives.

  • Edits: Our editor will provide feedback/edits over the course of the week in which the article is due to be published. The commissioned writer will have the final edit.

  • Citations: Associated Press (AP) style citations, in text attribution through the form of direct and indirect quotation.

  • Images: Each piece is accompanied by an image. This image will also act as the thumbnail. If you have an image in mind, we would love your suggestion. We reserve final edit on the chosen image.

  • Title: Please provide a title. While the editor may provide suggestions, the commissioned writer will have the final edit.

  • Format: We will be responsible for formatting. (Including pull quotes, spacing, font, grammar, etc.)
